A prize winner in many drawing competitions, she eventually chose to devote herself to a musical career.
She carried off a first prize in the piano and is a master in musicology.
She has been a supervisor for many films and T.V. programmes ( Cannes2001-Arte), and she could thus achieve a first access to a merging of both her two passions: pictorial art and music.
Her late come back to her art which was momentarily put aside, has made her a portrait photograph and a graphist highly held in repute.
Fond of art since chidhood, she is creating paintings in close relation to a musical listening : headphones on her ears allow her to shut herself from the world and people around. She thus makes headway in her picture step by step, choosing all the while musics in relation to the process of creation.
« My relation to paing is mainly and above all synesthesic; painting was already part of my vibes in my early years.
In my view, »perfumes, colors and sounds are in perfect harmony and correspondance»
The touch is as important as the sight in my pictorial work.
Ahead of laying the colour, I create reliefs, textures smooth or rough, pits, drops and so on…for a better Sensory Journey… »
Expressed in thick, full brushstrokes, this sense of kinetic energy carries us into the image, so that we are swept away by the intense, vibrant colors. Silvana di Martino includes a variety of textures in her canvases, making her distinctive palette come alive. She says that many of her hues, especially the blues she employs, are influenced by the colors used by Renaissance painters. Referencing all the wonder of nature, from flowing lava to sun, wind and the lights of the Aurora Borealis, these works reflect both our own universe and a marvelous unknown world.
synaesthetic exhibition
Paintings inspired by the flavors and scents of the World teas … in relation Theodor teas and environment « and Sounds » evoking the trip tea in space and time.
synaesthetic exhibition
The exhibition presents a new concept, “the synaesthetic exhibition”. What is a synaesthetic exhibtion, you might ask? Well, it is a physical experience of sensory signals interacting with each other (visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile and gustative). By simulating sensations, other senses are awakened and brought to life.
This new exhibition is inspired by the texts of Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal (The Flowers of Evil). In Baudelaire’s text, perfumes, colors and sound respond to each other.
The exhibitions’ descriptive texts have been translated into braile; You can touch them. You can also touch the paintings. Consequently, the exhibition is open to all audiences, including those with sight handicaps.
“Sensory Journey” is the creation of Silvana Di Martino (painter), in collaboration with Denis Barbier (musician and sound engineer).
